Block paving

Posted on January 31st, 2011 by johns-admin-dw  |  Comments Off on Block paving

Hello good afternoon welcome back to the blog today at like to write a brief but small article on the subject of block paving I would like to give you a brief outline as to how block paving is carried out the first of all there are many many different types of block paving on the market. The first thing to do is to choose the type and texture of your block paving there are many many builders merchants in around the Essex area with a plentiful supply of styles and design.

Just recently to speak work… Carried out a very large installation of over 100 m² of paving this was done to the front and side and rear of semi detached bungalow in Southend-on-Sea Essex first of all we had to bringing the help of a large machinery . The first step is to remove all the topsoil to the correct depth of over 10 inches this was carried out with the machine with the aid of a grading bucket once all the soil was excavated to the correct depth it was piled up in the middle awaiting removal by our subcontractors.

When the subcontractors remove the waste from sites it has to be correctly disposed of all this waste that has come out the old driveway which was a mixture of soil aggregates concrete bricks and hold remaining garden slaps will be disposed of by local council depot.

After the removal of the soil within backfield all of the surrounding area with an aggregate call type I initially successful of aggregate you can use as it is strong and durable once all of the type I is spread out evenly is then tracked down by the machine this compresses the type I into the old soil makes a strong sub base any soft areas around the working area which is soft to the foot will be to get out and backfield with concrete.

Once this process is complete we can move on to the laying of the block paving to all the external edges these will be laid on sharp sand and cement and bedded or the force will be created from one end to the other with the aid of the water level the water level is still the most accurate way of transferring one level from one point to the other even by today’s standards.

When the external edges are in position within move on to excavating the soak/away the purpose of this is so that any surface water that falls onto the driveway will run into it and be harvested into the ground in average driveway in a downpour of rain can collect in the region of approximately 60 gallons of water so it’s very important to make sure that the necessary arrangements are put in place to collect the surface water.

Once the other paragraph stages complete within move on to screening the complete driveway this is consists of using sharp sand and it is pulled down but when into the driveway of the highest point to the lowest point this will create the necessary falls it is a very time-consuming part of the job but it is imperative that his carried out accurately and correctly.

The next parts of the project will be to start the laying of the paving for this she started the corner and work your way out to the outside edges of the driveway as the pavings meets the edge borders any gaps are filled in with cuts they keep taking the time to this entry if anyone can John can

Posted on December 12th, 2010 by johns-admin-dw  |  Comments Off on Vat rise in the new year

Hello everyone and welcome to the blog today we have many issues arise in this new distant future with the VAT rise that is being allocated by the Chancellor of the Exchequer easily rises will implement the first week that the year of 2011  .

As everyone is aware that the VAT rise that will be upon us very shortly will affect everyone in the country. The VAT will rise by a further 3% which unfortunately has to be put on our server quotations and estimates passed on down the line the customer who eventually has to pay for it all clients think that there again the government to make lots of promises to the lecture as normal and never deliver on time or whatever they say anyway moving onto the blog today’s chat I would like to express that we have tried to cover to keep our cost to a minimum to help any new potential client with a project because as you can imagine that the increase on their side 20 to 50,000 project could push their finances up by a further £3-£4000 . Perhaps potential clients will contact more builders if there was any further reflections on quotations or we would like to say from John brickwork Ltd

we are Essex-based builders will supply realistic affordable prices we deliver on time and on budget. Thank you for taking time for reading entry of the blog today and will be back shortly and thank you

Block Paving

Let it snow let it snow let it snow here just brickwork we started a new job on Monday for a new client to client requested us to kindly supply them in writing and estimate for their request of 100 m² block paving to which we did.

We supplyed a client a complete breakdown. To finish off their works that they requested from us along with a basic draft contract their approval.WE started works as for this Monday and we started a new excavation site we place a three tonne  machinery with a hydraulic braking machine to break up the large concrete that is already there are then existing driveway we estimate the concrete to be in excess of 7 inches deep or approximately 160 mm, she made light work with these hydraulic braking point. The 360° machine to a place to the job is a JCB which is currently owned by joint brickwork Ltd on the first day of the works we removed approximately 30 t of mixed soil and aggregate to which was removed by her local contractor contractor that we called in for this project has a eight wheeled Lorry with a mechanical grab.

The grab vehicle approached our job and pulled alongside the mechanical arm is in operated by hydraulic levers to the outside of the vehicle the arm is an extended and the backing they reaches over to the pile of debris the debris is picked up by the machine and then placed into the rear of the empty lorry  every  lorry can carry around 17 to 20 t fully loaded.

The vehicle is entered into a local waste disposal sites that is run by the local borough council upon tipping the heavy load the drive everything given a certificate by the council to prove that the waste is disposed of according to all health and safety regulations and this of course safeguards any comeback if they were to fly tipping they have the necessary documentation to prove it there is disposed of according the but most of all safely.

To be carried on working throughout the snow on Monday, made good progress in this liability by progress we came across the utilities i.e. the gas mains water mains and electrical mains. We carefully carried on excavating and grading the area around with the machine this machine is capable of moving a lot of soil with a minimum amount of effort due to the size of the ditching bucket that is attached to the end of the arm this bucket is approximately 4 feet across the width and 300 mm in size. Sometimes you say so mechanical diggers working alongside if you look carefully at the machines bucket sometimes there are large round holes in them this is I release a water.

On some particular buckets they have large teeth extend over 4 to 5 inches in depth these are called greedy teeth and due to their name they turn into hard ground with ease. We are specialist contractors in a specialised industry we are based in Essex and we carry out works in all surrounding areas including Southend-on-Sea thank you her taking the time to read this blog entry there will always be more to come if anyone can john cann

Cement Mixing

Posted on November 10th, 2010 by johns-admin-dw  |  Comments Off on Cement Mixing

Hi  there are welcome back to the blog how are you today as we all know the weather  was absolutely fantastic today but who knows what’s installed for tomorrow even the weathermen get it wrong. In today’s edition of the blog I would like to explain to you how we mix cement and what ratio and what types cement clearly works better in some environments than others.

let’s start with the sand that not many types of sand the first signs we will talk about his pit sand pit sand is a fine sand that comes from certain quarries in our country further up north in Wales and is transported down by large transport rise to the local building supplies in a region where it is pit sand is quite useful it can be used for Brick work and other associated works in that trad

once you set up the cement mixer and connected to electricity supplier you live fill the cement mixer up partially with water in with the water he would mixer negative this would make the cement and sent more pliable and easier to use this for arguments sake we are going to build a while we would use six parts sand to 1 part cement that would mean a ratio of 6 to 1 we withdrew six buckets of sand up to everyone buckets cement that is how we get the ratio and then we replaced the sand and cement in the mixer and that the drum mix. As the cement mixer is mixing with a closer look at the consistency of it in the drum is important to get it right otherwise it is too wet is to running  or to stiffer too hard but would be to use itfor the purpose of Lisbon to use it for honestly builders make this look easy when they carried out this task due to the fact that had many many years of experience to get the correct consistency of the mix.

When the mix is in the drummer cement mixer and turning over as every rotation of the cement mixer turns it creates here within the mix this creates the product become more pliable for its use if you were to leave it in the drum too long it would basically go to water which would be no good for anyone once the correct consistency is achieved in the cement mixer is lifted up and the contents of the mix is poured into a container which will be placed into a bucket onto the labourers shoulder carried up to the bricklayers working on the scaffolding the bricklayers would pick it up from their spot boards and carrier land the bed joints and on the line of the land bricks.

the next sand that I would like to talk to you is called Sharp Sand this is quite a coarse sand with small part of gritting it the Sharp Sand will produce the things like screeching floors rendering plastering making good oversights is a handy sound and very versatile and covers most aspects of the building industry for repairs locally purchased from your building supplier A one tonnes of sand would cost around £50 from your local building supplier in Essex obviously they would deliver this free of charge which is always handy it would arrive in a special bag there was neither heavy canvas in this bag with her for handles stitched the bag for transportation along time ago is to get credits back on the bags but this is unheard of now due to health and safety regulations.

The next type of sand that I would like to talk about is called ballast ballast is a mixture of all the other signs and includes small aggregate as well he aggregate would be around 10 mm to 20 mm in sizes the aggregate in the backward ballast would be useful all types of concreting including ground  footings raft footings underpinning, pathways patio laying is a completely versatile material that is used throughout the industry in or building companies such as John’s brickwork Ltd of Southend-on-Sea Essex we are Essex builders specialised contractors in a specialised industry I hope you enjoyed this summary and hope that you can take something away from this small blog  about building materials.

We will keep you updated on all our recent projects via picture and blog and inches to a website www .Johns-brickwork.co.UK all that remains now to say good evening have a nice weekend and if anyone can John can order best until the next block over and out

EXTENSION Canvey

Posted on October 26th, 2010 by johns-admin-dw  |  Comments Off on EXTENSION Canvey

This is a medium-sized extension of the building on Canvey Island as you can see picture we have installed a roof light to the ceiling this has a big benefit of letting light flooding the area at minimum cost.

This conversion to the kitchen extension, incorporate many benefit of plumbing and electrical works on this particular project we can across many problems that run for seen i.e. the old electrics in the house at the refurbished as well as the old planning we have to look at everything to be in accordance with building regulations as you may well see the picture in the corner we installed a new high-performance central heating boiler this was an additional cost to the client as we never previously priced this in Contract.

The duration of works is still being carried out at this present time and is near completion Christmas once the classes completed and the flooring at the correct level we wi ll then start the process of decorating this will entail emulsion in and have been down and preparation final finish. The building inspector will come along in due course to check her work periodically at all stages to make sure that we are conforming to all building regulations that are laid down by government and gas safety certificate for the installation of the new boiler and all necessary documentation that he or may request.

On this particular project the client requested that he would like a new patio door installed in the front elevation of the extension to which we carried out his request the client was fully happy with his new doors the doors came from a local supplier that we use regularly forward our windows and doors installation is important to remember and put aside costings on the build a nice quality and durable windows as this will reflect in time the wind is that we use conform to all the new legislation laid down by government this is imperative that we carry this out in accordance regulations so that the client will receive a certificate of habitation once he or she would send them to the local solicitors and this would be then placed or and lodged at the local building society should there be a mortgage or  on the property the client receives the habitation certificate in trust.

Due to the economic climate of the country at this present time in moment it’s half a builder to give decline everything they request on a limited budget but we do try our best to cater for wall there needs sometimes we can’t give everyone everything the government has just passed legislation in recent weeks that the new VAT rate will rise by 3% In the New Year unfortunately due to this rise in VAT burden will be placed on the client are not born to the builder hopefully in time and not in it by distant future the VAT would drop a game helping to ease the burden and financial commitment as clients obviously borrow money from banks and this could help them in many factors when borrowing funds from any financial institution.

There are many financial institutions that could help people are many many ways as explained in the above paragraph we are in a recession even though our government says we are not take for instance there are many people in the country at this present time that have County Court judgements and this would make it very difficult for them to borrow any money to carry out any refurbishment works in a property i.e. extensions conversions garage conversions but there are certain companies on the financial market to help these people but the downfall of this obviously is the interest rate sometimes  very much higher than high street banking rates this is unfortunate but unavoidable due to economical climate the country at this present time the moment.

Here at Johns brickwork Ltd we are specialist builders in a specialised industry we cover all of Essex and surrounding areas and supply free estimate in-house to all prospective clients we are capable of supplying the quotation there and then providing at a full detailed quotation and costings down to the last piece skirting board in the Room and the cost of full redecoration to your home down to the last lick of paint the wall.

So if anyone can john  cann

the weather

Posted on October 25th, 2010 by johns-admin-dw  |  Comments Off on the weather

While today’s weather was totally remarkable you can never be too unprepared in our industry or even take notice of it what the weather forecasters predict. And what a difference a day makes today felt like a spring day mother coming at the end of the year I must confess that  the men on-site are all looking forward to the Christmas festivities which won’t be too far away from now but for the moment though we must plod on and carry about work that we do everyday.

According to the forecasters on the television they reckon sunshine today which is Monday sunshine on Tuesday rain on Wednesday rain on Thursday sunshine on Friday hopefully will be out to carry out the works and we need to get completed. As the old saying says what doesn’t get done today can always get done tomorrow today be sent a couple of fancy servicing and MOT’s as well hopefully it shouldn’t cost too much time to get Mot it’s important to keep on servicing new vehicles and maintaining also in appearance or John’s brickwork limited vehicles are fully sign written and stand out from the crowd.

Being a local established company based in Essex is very important and highlight our criteria that image is very important we have test taken delivery of a complete new T-shirts and coats for all our men to wear on-site this clearly shows to any prospective buyer or client who is carrying out the works down the road and should they require any estimates because of the highly visible T-shirts they can clearly see the contact numbers on the back and front of them I must say though we had some comments already back about the T-shirts from the men wearing them some like them most disliked them . Also because they’re very highly visible it quite clear to me I can clearly see how many men are working on a particular job at any one time which is important that in a man hours and timesheets at every job as a foreman part of his job is to sign the men in announced and carry out their work hours on the timesheets this is a very important and critical part of their job.

We are looking to undertake three more new apprentices in the year when in bricklaying carpentry  electrician mostly apprenticeships now over a five-year period and carried out in modules generally though most of the young people is that we have are honest and trustworthy with a desire to learn and succeed from within our company for the training we give now will hold them in good stead for the rest of their life not only work but also in their private life as well is carefully young apprentices to experience their life this way.

It is possible in the New Year that we may purchase new vehicles to expand our major fleets these would include new flat bed vehicles these new vehicles will run on diesel as this is the most cost-effective way of running new fleet of vehicles we must try to source cheaper diesel in the New Year as the prices rocketing every little bit helps and passed on down the line may be some stage in time all vehicles will be electric only time will tell in our industry.
